Company Announcement

Statesville, N.C. – Blue Ridge Beef is recalling certain lots of its natural raw puppy food due to concerns over potential salmonella contamination. The recall applies to frozen, two-pound logs of the brand’s Puppy Mix bearing the lot numbers 08/06/N25 and 08/16/N25 stamped in the clips on the end of the plastic packaging.

The issue came to light when a customer notified the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) that their puppies got sick after eating Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix. On November 27, 2024, the FDA notified Blue Ridge Beef that samples of the Puppy Mix tested positive for salmonella.

Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Food Affected

The recalled lots of Bue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix were distributed between August 6-23, 2024. The products were packaged in clear plastic and sold primarily in retail stores located in Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.

Risks of Salmonella

Pets who eat products contaminated with salmonella may become sick. Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

Pet products that may be contaminated with salmonella may also present a risk to humans who handle them. This is especially true if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. People who exhibit tese signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

What to Do

If you have purchased these lots of recalled Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix, return them to the place of purchase or destroy the food in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access. Do not sell or donate the recalled products. Do not feed the recalled product to pets or any other animals. Wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers. Always ensure you wash and sanitize your hands after handling recalled food or any utensils that come in contact with recalled food.
