Amelia: This name would be for female pilot Amelia Earhart. Dolly Parton, the female country musician and songwriter paved (and continues to pave) the way for women in the music industry. She has won multiple Grammy awards, and was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
Rosa: Maybe you should name your pup after Rosa Parks, who is recognized as the “mother of the modern day civil rights movement” in the United States. She refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, on December 1, 1955, which established her role in the civil rights movement.
Florence: This strong female name would honor Florence Nightingale, the woman who is credited with founding modern nursing. She was known for her personalized care methods, which earned her the nickname “the Lady with the Lamp,” and she also wrote over 150 books and pamphlets on nursing safety and best practices.

Joan: If your pup has warrior-like qualities, a great name for her might be Joan, after Joan of Arc. She was a French heroine who led the French army during the Hundred Years’ War, and famously disguised herself as a man incognito to continue her military pursuits. She was burned at the stake for heresy at the age of 19.
Leia: That’s right…true Star Wars fans know that Princess Leia is the ultimate boss lady, and Leia is one of our favorite Star Wars dog names. So if your pup has the same spirit, it’s a great name to pick. Not only is Leia a strong Jedi Knight who is full of will, she also is known in pop culture as a feminist hero.
Billie: If you’re a tennis fan, or your pup loves to chase around tennis balls, then Billie (after Billie Jean King) is a fitting name. Billie broke down barriers in female tennis, becoming the #1 tennis athlete in the world, with 39 Grand Slam titles, and has since become an advocate within the LGBTQ community.
Clara: The name Clara would pay homage to Clara Barton, the American Civil War nurse who founded the American Red Cross in 1881. She also was a staunch supporter of suffrage rights for women.
